Used rally tires with presumably a lot of tread for $50 each? That’s actually pretty darn reasonable!

Gib Yokohama snow tires (far end, top) to Squirrel.

Real teams run rally tires for one event or even one stage if it’s a fast one..After that they might use them for recce but usually they sell them to us Novices for beer money..
If it were 8 years ago when I had the rally car these would already be in my garage.
Looks like 3 gravel sets, two snows, and one studded,
o
h and a tarmac set at the bottom.

Makes me wish I lived near *checks post* lived in BC. Rally tyres are a very viable route for my offroad smart build (I refuse to trim fenders) but they aren’t usually cheap around here.

13 and 15 is a bit of a problem usually, people used to run legacy 15in wheels to make these fit on current Subarus..

Be aware that rally tires aren’t DOT legal and can be interesting on pavement.
Also they are beyond useless when its below 50F outside.

Oh I know. The idea is that I’d pick up a spare set of steel rear wheels then mount them when I show up at a Gambler 500. There’s not a lot of road running you need to do on a Gambler (just enough miles to get to the next trail) so that’s not a worry.
At this point I’m also considering snows. Hot pavement will murder them but they’ll be pretty awesome offroad.

Yep, cars with gravel tires were significantly slower on transits between stages. I went with xice winters and could go highway speeds while other cars with rally tires were super twitchy on pavement.
Plus running
them on pavement you can basically hear them wearing out.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware before you end up posting a photo of Tucker flopped over in a ditch because you drove on gravels on a rainy fall day.
Honestly snows hold up decently when you drive on them through the summer. They just get really squidgy in the heat. I drove my first Corolla on winters for the entire year I put up with it and had 0 issues.

The joys of highly specialized tires. Black magic witchcraft in the conditions they were designed for, genuinely dangerous anywhere else.

How competitive were the xices compared to the rally tires?

Hey welcome!
I run TSD rallies so not all out as fast as you can go stage type, but every second is a point so you don’t want to be worried about tires.
Overall the xices were good, we had a mix of gravel, dirt and soupy mud. I was impressed with the grip they had, although I might have gone with a winterforce type ‘paddle’ snow tread pattern if it was a loose stage.
